MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 226

Welcome to the 226th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday. I've posted three clips this week -- these three clips share something in common. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of each of the three mystery jam clips, and answer what they share in common. Each person gets one attempt per day, with the second “day” starting after the Blog posts the hint -- each answer should contain three songs / dates, along with the commonality between them. No sharing or trading of answers is allowed. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. The winner will receive an MP3 code good for a free download of any show, courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Good luck, and have a great Memorial Day -- the Blog takes no political stance, but maybe we can take a moment today to remember those who have died in service of our country, enabling us to do things like BBQing and drinking beer all day, or listening to 30 second Phish clips over and over again in hopes of winning MP3 download codes!

Answer: Congrats to four-time winner @highhat, who quickly identified the 7/28/98 Lengthwise, the9/27/00 Gumbo, and the 11/27/09 Tomorrow's Song – all songs with Fishman-penned lyrics. The MJM will take a short break and will return on Monday, June 20th, just in time for Summer Tour.

EdwardGRobinson You can't say enough about 07/28/98. Fairly sure that is the only first set Tela > Sally that I will ever see. Good times.

officercookies Just a heads up to the people making these, I tune in most weeks, sometimes dig around a little, but can't get too obsessed while I'm at work and wouldn't stand a chance even if I was in 100%, But i Enjoy listening, and then following the process until it is figured out or if the blog has to tell us. Bottom line, it may not show but I still get something out of these.

Glad to hear it! The positive comments definitely fuel me to keep them rolling week in, week out. And my jam charts partner in crime @Dog_Faced_Boy is a huge help and pushes me to make them more challenging, and constantly sends me great clips for future MJM fodder -- in fact, this week's was completely his brainchild. Funny enough, he thought it might be too easy, while I thought for sure this one was super difficult and would go to the hint, but @highhat made quick work of that assumption...

ucpete I should also add that when I first took over, I thought it would be difficult to push out a new clip each week. But since we moved to the new format (which was also mostly DFB's idea if I recall correctly) it's allowed me to get more creative with the MJMs, as well as opened up the possibility for including cool Type I jams alongside the more obscure Type II segments. At any given time, I've got a handful of possible MJMs to throw out to the masses, so it's just a matter of what I feel like using that week rather than scrambling at the last second to find something. Funny enough, my complicated scientific algorithm for what I choose each week is "hot damn, everybody's gotta hear this jam!" :)

HarborSeal Well, since people are talking about how great the MJs are, and I'm a regularly lurker, I might as well chime in too.

Pete, these MJs are great fun. I seldom compete--I just check in on the mystery jam during my Monday lunch hour, and can't check more than a few versions--but it is brightens my day every time and gives me something to look forward to. And you have shown me more than a few hot little jam segments this way! Not every great moment can make a jam chart--Phish throws out so many ideas, and sometimes, even in a relatively typical or even plodding version of YEM or Split or Ghost or something, there will be a few moments of transcendent playing, and the MJs can point you to those. I still remember discovering the fiery, peaking little segment in the otherwise non-distinct 8/17/93 YEM... never would ahve bothered to listen if not for this contest.

Anyway, Pete, thank you for your great work on this!
